Big betting weekend for sports fans in Indiana
Basketball is King in the state of Indiana, but football has closed the gap considerably over the last few years.
Not only do football fans in Indiana love the Colts, but there are plenty of great college football programs to follow as well.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be playing in one of the biggest college football games of the entire weekend on Saturday, and they are actually underdogs at Notre Dame Stadium. Notre Dame is getting two points in their matchup with the Cincinnati Bearcats, and this is a must-win game for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame can’t afford to take a loss if they want to reach the College Football Playoff yet again as they are back to being an independent team. The Fighting Irish are starting to gain some national recognition, but they have to pull off an upset on Saturday to stay in the hunt.
The Indiana Hoosiers have been disappointing, to say the least, so far in 2021, and they have a really tough test at Penn State on Saturday night. Indiana is a 12.5-point betting underdog against the Nittany Lions, and it would take the best effort of the season to keep this game close.
Indiana entered the 2021 season with hopes of winning the Big Ten Conference and were a team that had an outside shot at reaching the College Football Playoff. The Hoosiers did pull off a number of surprising upsets a season ago, and winning this game could get them back on the right track.
The other big college football game featuring a team from Indiana is the Purdue Boilermakers hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Purdue comes into this matchup with a record of 3-1, and they are suddenly a real threat to win the Big Ten West Division.
Purdue is a 2.5-point betting favorite over Minnesota on Saturday, and this is a game that the Boilermakers will have to win to stay in the hunt. A victory would keep them atop the standings with the Iowa Hawkeyes as both teams would remain 2-0 in conference action.
Can Colts Win a Game?
After a long day of college football on Saturday, all of the attention will turn to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Somehow the Colts have gotten off to an 0-3 start in 2021, and this comes after they were a betting favorite to win the AFC South this season.
The Colts travel to Miami on Sunday for a matchup with the Dolphins, and they are 2.5-point betting underdogs in this game. Indianapolis will be facing former Colts quarterback Jacoby Brisset as Tua Tagovailoa remains out of the lineup with an injury.
It has been the defense that has really let the Colts down this weekend as they are giving up 26.7 points per game. The poor start for the Colts has been big for sportsbooks in the state as they are taking advantage of sport bettors that are backing the home team.
