Colts Sign Fisher to Deal

Eric Fisher

After bringing in veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to man the position in 2021, the Colts have been looking for a way to protect the new signal-caller.

Indianapolis decided to go a different direction during the 2021 NFL Draft, but they were able to make a big splash on Monday.

The Colts announced that they have signed Eric Fisher to a one-year deal worth $9.4 million. The left tackle joins the Colts after spending the first 117 games of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City selected Fisher with the number one overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and he was a starter in 113 of those games. The Chiefs made the difficult decision to release Fisher in March in an effort to get under the salary cap prior to the NFL Draft.

There are some serious health concerns for Fisher, and that is one of the reasons that he wasn’t drawing much interest from other teams around the league. Fisher suffered a torn Achilles in the AFC Championship Game, and his status for the 2021 season is up in the air.

There is a belief among the front office and coaching staff in Kansas City that Fisher will be ready to play at some point early in the season. If this does happen, the Colts could have one of the best offensive line units in football.

This has not always been a great career for Fisher, and the Chiefs were questioned repeatedly about the possibility that Fisher would end up being a bust. Fisher continued to improve during his time in Kansas City and eventually proved that he was deserving of the top overall draft pick.

The retirement of Anthony Castonzo in January left a massive hole on the offensive line with the Colts. Indianapolis could have used a draft pick to fill this need, but the front office was not high on any of the prospects coming out of college.

If the Colts are going to get a good year out of Carson Wentz, then they are going to have to provide him some protection. Wentz was sacked more than four times per game in his 12 starts with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Schedule to Be Released May 12

The National Football League will be releasing the entire 2021 regular-season schedule on Wednesday, May 12. The announcement can be seen on Colts.com, NFL.com, or live on the NFL Network, and it will begin at 8:00 PM ET.

This will be the first time that the league will conduct a 17-game regular season, and the matchups for that additional game have already been announced. The Colts will be hosting the defending Super Bowl champion, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in 2021.

By adding an additional game to the regular-season schedule, there will only be three preseason games for the upcoming season. The regular season will be conducted over an 18-week calendar, with each team still having one bye.

Individual tickets are set to go on sale on Thursday, May 13 at 11 AM. For more information on how to purchase tickets, visit Colts.com.
