Hoosiers Clean Up on First Weekend of Indiana Mobile Betting
DraftKings were left licking their wounds after Indiana bettors cashed on the sportsbook’s generous odds boost on the Colts moneyline against the Chiefs.
All thanks to mobile betting finally launching in the Hoosier State last week, meaning bettors had a safe and legal way to back their favorite team – a coincidence?
Thursday: We open our doors in Indiana
Sunday: Colts win as double-digit underdogs against the undefeated Chiefs.

Colts stifle Chiefs’ offence to pull off upset
The line had been set at +460 for bettors outside Indiana but Hoosiers were able to take advantage of an increased moneyline of +1000, and the rest is history as they say.
Some bettors might have turned their nose up at even that inflated line given the Chiefs were a perfect 4-0 with home-field advantage, while the Colts were 2-2 and 10.5 point underdogs on the road against the reigning MVP at quarterback.
But having led 13-10 at the half, the Colts defense continued to put the clamps on the Chiefs offence in the second half, leaving both teams to produce a scoreless third quarter.
The Chiefs did manage a late field goal but the Colts had built a 19-10 lead by that point, ultimately completing the upset with a six-point victory.
Expensive for Draftkings but don’t feel sorry
Despite a maximum bet limit of $10, which really should have limited any damage, DraftKings reportedly paid out more than $300,000 to Colts backers in the Hoosier State, with a reported 38% of the online website’s customers jumping on the line.
Of course, that amount is no big loss to DraftKings and it’s only what they likely spend on promotions and advertising in the state in any given week – money well spent when you consider how many bettors would have downloaded their app last weekend.
And then there is the fact the upset would have killed plenty of parlays placed with DraftKings elsewhere in the US. That and the Oakland Raiders (+6) upsetting the Chicago Bears would have had sportsbooks chalking up huge gains and William Hill included, with a reported 74% of their bettors backing the Chiefs on the spread.
Want some action?
Colts backers in Indiana have an extra week to count their winnings as Jacoby Brissett and Co are on a bye week, before hosting the Houston Texans in a game that could well decide the fate of the AFC South.
But you don’t have to wait until then to wager. As long as you’re physically inside the state and are aged 21 or older, you can download the DraftKings app for free – either directly from the Apple Store for iPhone or from the website if you’ve got an Android device.
