Jackson-Davis Wins Big Ten Player of the Week Honor
Indiana sophomore Trayce Jackson-Davis was named the men’s basketball Player of the Week in the Big Ten Conference for his play during the Maui Invitational.
The forward averaged 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game during the three-game stretch to take home this honor.
In a win over Stanford, Jackson-Davis carried the Hoosiers with 31 points and was also named to the Maui Jim All-Tournament team for his efforts. Indiana went 2-1 during the tournament, beating both Stanford and Providence while losing to Texas.
During that win over Stanford, Jackson-Davis set a new career high with his 31 points, going 10-of-16 from the field. The sophomore also chipped in with six rebounds and two assists to help the Hoosiers bounce back after a disappointing effort against Texas.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Jackson-Davis, though he was named Freshman of the Week five times a season ago. He is the first Indiana player to earn this award since Juwan Morgan on March 11, 2019.
The Texas Longhorns went on to win the Maui Invitational after beating North Carolina on a last-second shot. The tournament was moved from Maui to Asheville, NC, due to COVID-19 concerns.
ACC/Big Ten Challenge
The annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge is set to tip off on Tuesday night, and three of the biggest basketball programs in the state will be in action. This is always one of the highlights of the early portion of the college basketball season and is a great measuring stick for NCAA hopeful teams.
This will be the 22nd straight year for this terrific event, and the ACC has traditionally dominated over the Big Ten Conference. The ACC has gone 12-6-3 since the challenge began, but the Big Ten Conference did win the event a season ago.
Duke has been the best team in this event by far, posting a 19-2 record against Big Ten competition. Overall, the ACC has posted a 133-106 record over the Big Ten, but this event is usually decided by two games or less.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have gone 4-3 in their seven games as a part of the challenge. Indiana has gone just 8-11 in its 19 matchups, while the Purdue Boilermakers have gone an impressive 11-8.
Indiana and Purdue were both winners a season ago, while Notre Dame suffered a loss. The Duke Blue Devils currently have an eight-game winning streak in this event, while Illinois has suffered three straight losses, the most of any team.
